The Castle at Edgehill is steeped in local, English history – overlooking the site of the battle of Edgehill, which took place on 23rd October 1642. The tower was built 100 years later by Sanderson Miller and is said to mark the spot where king Charles I raised the standard before the two sides clashed. The tower, also known as the ‘Radway’ or ‘Round tower’, was intended to replicate Guy’s tower at nearby Warwick castle. The Castle first became a pub in 1822, when it was sold by Sanderson Millerand was then acquired by the Hook Norton Brewery in 1922, with Mark Higgs, the current tenant, taking over the lease in 2013. Award-winning local distiller, Daniel Beckett, who runs Pinnock Distillery, will be bringing all of his craftsmanship and knowledge to Mark’s truly archetypal tower setting. Together, these two knew they had the potential to create one of the most iconic and breath-taking micro gin distilleries and so, the Castle Gin School was born.
At the Castle Gin School, you will take charge of a mini copper pot still to develop your very own gin recipe, by choosing from our extensive range of citrus, herbal, floral and spice botanicals, or alternatively you can bring your own along. At the very end of the session, you will be able to bottle and label your own unique creation in a 70cl bottle.
You can also join us for one of our shorter, informative taster sessions, where you will get to try the full range of spirits produced by Pinnock Distillery.
Please note, the gin school is situated at the top of the Radway tower. To reach the school, you will be required to climb 57 stairs, 20 of which are a narrow, spiral staircase. If you are concerned that yourself, or a member of your party, will have difficulty accessing the tower, please contact our team on firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss alternative arrangements prior to booking tickets.
